How would I turn a jeweled brooch into a hair barrette?
I would like to take an old vintage jeweled brooch/ pin and turn it into a hair barrette. I would just like to know how to remove the metal pin part of the brooch and secure the jeweled piece on to the metal barrette. Also where can I find the clip together barrettes that I need? Beading store? Any advice would sure help- thanks :)
Use wire cutters or pliers to remove the clasp. If you have a Dremmel, smooth the area off. A beading store or an arts and crafts store should have the barrette backing you need.
go to a jeweler. if it is old, it is probably easily breakable!

What are the best type of hair barrette's to use on a child who has thick fluffy curly hair?
My two year old daughter has beautiful curly hair, but it is very thick, with lots of volume. She loves hair accessories, but I can't seem to find a brand of barrette that will actually stay tight in her hair. I have tried to persuade her to love headbands, and she does, but she also loves barrettes, and braid's with beads.... She is very into clothes and matching hair, shoes, and jewelery.....
My child has thick curly hair too. I've found that any child's barettes don't work in her hair, I use adult ones. There are lots of pretty adult ones out there. I can't use the adult ones myself because my hair is too thick and they break. The kid's ones break or won't hold my daughter's hair. Also, I use just a touch of mousse in my daughter's hair, it's helped a lot since her hair will retain styles better once it is dry.
Where can I find this INSTANT VOLUME hair barrette?
A few nights ago while watching one of my shows that had DVR'd, I saw a product, slightly like a hair barrette only better, that you place underneath your hair to create instant volume (like those displayed on Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse). Can anybody point me in the direction of this miracle barrette?

A good barrette thatv stays in your hair?
I have somewhat thick, wavy hair, and like to put my hair in barrettes. It stays so much smoother and prettier than an elastic, but my barrettes always break after the second or third use- sometimes right away! I'm willing to pay more for something that stays, won't slip, and looks cute I'd really like something black or brown for everyday, in small sizes for either side of the head and larger ones for a half ponytail. Any ideas?

Looking for a plastic hair barrette from the 80's?

Back in the early 1980's there were these plastic hair barrettes that came in every colour imaginable. They were oval shaped with an arm that slid back and forth a little. I think they came small, medium and large. These were one of the few barrettes that stayed in my hair. Does anyone remember this type of barrette and have you seen them for sale anywhere? I've googled and checked ebay.
