Hair highlights?

I wanted to get highlights like Miley Cyrus has in her video start all over but cant find any or I wanted to try to find pics for Dark brown hair with highlights...I dont know where to find them any suggestions or any pics would be very helpful. I have hair past my shoulders to mid back.

I want to do blonde highlights in my hair like I had once.I was wondering does any product like garnier,l'oréal etc...have boxes for highlights and do they come with highlighting cap?!

I want to get highlights in my dark hair highlighted but I want to make sure I don't end up with warm tones. What would be some examples of cool highlights?

red,blonde those are awesome,i got those before n i loved it..:) or even burgundy..n get thin slices..n itl come out nice,cuz sumztyms if u tell them to weave highlights,they put to much in..have fun!

What are the risks in getting hair highlights for the first time?

I'm a highschool junior and my hair is naturally thick and black. Right now I think that its healthy and it feels and looks nice... But I REALLY want to get brown highlights before the month ends. If I get highlights will my hair still be as smooth and thick? How will I maintain its texture after I get my highlights? What are the risks for my hair? Is there any dangers in getting highlights?

The health of your hair shouldn't be a problem. If your hairstylist is worth their salt, they'll condition it well after the coloring. You just have to keep it up with a rich, COLOR SAFE, shampoo and conditioner. I use Catwalk Oatmeal and Honey Comfort Food For Damaged Hair. My hair isn't damaged, but it's extremely moisturizing and smells delicious.

The texture should be fine. Don't get huge 'chunks' the first time, though. Get small, thin highlights that just accent the prettiness of your hair. You may consider only getting face-framing highlights that will give you an idea of what you will look like with a little bit of brown. I would advise a caramel type color if you want to go lighter (don't go blonde, it will look fake unless you have other colors dyed in as well...). It will look more natural and give you the depth that one color doesn't have.

The only danger in getting highlights is a bad stylist. If they leave the bleach/color in too long, it can severely damage your hair, and make it break off at the ends. Ask around and get recommendations from friends that have colored hair and see who they go to. Then, talk to your stylist and tell them EXPLICITLY what you want. It's not their fault if you don't like it and you didn't give them a detailed description of what you want. If you do tell them what you want, and it still doesn't look great, a good stylist will offer to fix it.

And, let's face it. It's easier to put dark dye on top of lighter dye than it is to vice versa.

What happens to hair highlights as they grow out?

I got my strawberry blonde hair highlighted with light blonde today...the lady did a nice job, but she put more blonde than what I really wanted. I can live with it, but I don't really want to keep this same design time and time again. Will the bleach or whatever be less white-blonde after time? Will it look crappy to let the highlights grow all the way out without ever getting them redone or trimmed off (I'm letting short hair grow out) ? I've never had highlights before, can ya tell!?!?

Don't live with it. Ask your stylist to do a tint back on some of the blond.
Yes the highlights will look "crappy" if let grow out w/o trimming or redoing. When you are "ready" for a retouch you need to decide if you want a retouch or a tint back.
The highlights will not look less white unless you are in an area with water that leaves rust deposits in hair. The lightened pieces of hair will continue to lighten as does the virgin hair due to chemicals in our water and exposure to sunlight.
